    Cagwin & Dorward is a full service landscape provider specializing in landscape maintenance, landscape construction, water management, and tree care for commercial, municipal and residential customers. From 15 local service centers, we serve the greater San Francisco Bay Area from Santa Rosa in the north, to Monterey in the south and east to Sacramento.

     

    POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for high quality and effective repair of equipment in the field.  Able to work independent of direct supervision, providing excellent customer service, maintaining professionalism, and ensuring appropriate and detailed records for time, parts, supplies, purchases and repairs.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To successfully fulfill this job position, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.     1. Independently diagnose and repair vehicles and heavy equipment, including but not limited to gasoline and diesel engines, drivetrain components, hydraulic and electrical systems associated with the Tree Care and Construction Industries.

     

    1. Schedule and perform weekly inspections, Preventive Maintenance Services and repairs as required.

     

    1. Must be able to multi-task and be detail orientated with demonstrated follow through and organizational skills

     

    1. Customer Service orientated, problem solver, reliable, ethical, able to adapt to the people and environment around them including, customers, suppliers, co-workers, etc.

     

    1. Communicates professionally, respectfully and honestly at all times.

     

    1. Basic typing and computer skills, able to communicate through via email and texts, maintain records in MS Excel.

     

    1. Maintain inventory of spare parts and supplies relevant to job tasks.

     

    1. Assist other mechanics as needed, and cooperate with field personnel to meet company objective of serving our customers.

     

    1. Maintain a safe and orderly work environment in the shop and field, observing safe work practices at all times.

     

    1. Ability to work five consecutive 8-hour days as scheduled. Be able to work overtime at the request of management.

     

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    1. Ensuring that all equipment and vehicles are ready and working as needed.

     

    1. Providing training to employees on equipment maintenance, vehicle maintenance and operations.

     

    1. Communicating and coordinating major repairs and maintenance with Managers

     

    1. Assist with annual inventory of shop equipment and supplies.

     

    1. Perform other job related duties as assigned.

     

    1. Actively seek improvements in service and repair procedures, in addition to prevention of equipment damage in the field.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

     

    1. Ability to effectively understand and communicate with manager and fellow crew members.

     

    1. Possess strong working knowledge of 4 cycle and diesel engines, in addition to hydraulic systems, and welding skills that meet industry standards. Capable of repairing fuel, brake, and electrical systems.

     

    1. Must have at least two years formal training and one year practical field work, or comparable experience.

     

    1. Must possess a valid California driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the company's insurance carrier.

     

    1. Must possess adequate hand tools to perform job efficiently.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION'S ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

     

    1. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs., able to stand, squat, kneel, crouch or crawl, for extended periods while performing mechanical work.

     

    1. Must possess dexterity, strength, and range of motion required to perform tasks usual to heavy line mechanic.

     

    1. Able to make frequent repetitive movements with the left and right hand, wrist, ankle and knee.

     

    1. Ability to twist/turn/bend the trunk of the body frequently.


    WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING THIS POSITION'S ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

     

    1. Outdoor physical labor in temperatures ranging from cold 20°+ to heat of 100°+ and

          exposure to light rain.

     

    1. Able to limit exposure to dust, exhausts, chemicals, noise and pollutants related to the

         landscape shop mechanic industry with proper use of safety equipment (masks,   

         gloves, goggles, etc.).

     

    1. Able to work within environment of machinery/equipment noise, traffic and hazards

         related to the landscape shop mechanic industry.
